First-party tracking checklist

This page contains the steps to go from your existing tracking setup (be that zero tracking, or an existing tracking implementation) to first party tracking with Eyk.

The steps below lead to a tracking setup that is truly first party. This enables you to achieve the highest possible conversion accuracy and percentage of customer journeys tracked, while ensuring the privacy of your customers is protected. What this means is:

  • Because events will be send to your own website domain it is first-party traffic and ad-blockers will not block it
  • Cookies will be set from a first-party context, will have a longer lifetime and will not be blocked by ad-blockers
  • Tracking scripts will be loaded from your own website domain, and will not be blocked by ad-blockers, again because it is first party traffic
  • Server side tracking enables sharing with third parties, for instance for algorithm improvement in your ad channels
  • Tracking will adhere to the consent the visitor gives on your website. Consumer privacy is protected because data stays in the first party context on dedicated servers that we host for you in the EU đŸ‡ȘđŸ‡ș until you choose to share it with a third party
đŸ€
We’re here to help! Know that the Eyk team is available for hands-on support to guide you to a fully first-party tracking setup

Overview

The steps to setup first party tracking with Eyk are divided into 3 steps:

  1. Granting access
  2. Implementation by the Eyk team
  3. Add DNS records

After taking these steps you will have a state of the art first-party tracking setup! Moreover, you will have unlocked attribution in Eyk, and we look forward to showing you around in a go-live call 🎉

☝
At this point you might ask yourself: why are there more implementation steps compared to other tracking solutions? This is because tracking with Eyk is truly first party and this requires more setup at the start, while other tracking solutions often are simpler but not first party! (even though they often do claim it)

Step 1 - Granting access

To get started, give the Eyk team access to your E-commerce platform and Google Tag Manager account. This access is needed to ensure the first-party tracking setup seamlessly integrates with your existing tech stack.

Grant access to your E-commerce platform

Follow the steps below for your platform to give the Eyk team the appropriate access

‣
Shopify partner access
‣
Shopify Plus partner access
‣
Magento 2 access
‣

Step 2 - Implementation by the Eyk team

☕
This block is all us (the Eyk team) - sit back and relax!

In this step we will get to work for you and take the following steps:

  • Setup a dedicated tagging server
  • Setup a dedicated Google Cloud Project
  • Setup a dedicated BigQuery data warehouse
  • Configure your E-commerce platform for server side tracking

Step 3 - Add DNS record

Finalise your setup by completing this last step. The Eyk team is available for hands-on support

Add DNS records: the Eyk team will share specific instructions. This step is needed to ensure the tracking events can be send to your website domain

All done - go-live call 🎉

Well done! You now have a truly first-party tracking setup that delivers the highest possible conversion accuracy and percentage of customer journeys tracked, while protecting the privacy of consumers.

On top of that you have now unlocked attribution insights in Eyk! We look forward to showing you around in a go-live call.
